Amy was a budding entrepreneur with an affinity for the arts from the start. Eventually, her backyard talent shows were replaced with a stint on Broadway after she earned a BFA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Fortunately, along the way, she met and married “Mr. Wright” and the two have been married for over 23 years. Today, they’re the proud parents of four children – their two youngest having Down syndrome, which makes them feel like the luckiest people on the planet. As an advocate for the value, inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Amy has worked collaboratively with the Special Olympics and Best Buddies International as a writer, songwriter and producer of music videos that promote their platforms. She is also a contributing writer for Maria Shriver's "Architects for Change" and blogs about their family at www.ItStartsWithaVoice.com.
Amy helped develop the first business model for employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the financial services sector at Dye Creek Capital, an independent investment practice owned by her husband, Ben. She later formed the non-profit ABLE to Work USA.
Amy’s vision for changing the 80% national unemployment rate for people with IDD, led her to her most fulfilling business venture yet – founding Beau’s Coffee.
Beau’s Coffee opened its doors January 2016 in Wilmington, NC. Three days after they opened, Beau's Coffee captured the attention of celebrity and talk show host, Rachael Ray, who featured Beau's Coffee on her show saying, "I want to see a Beau's Coffee on every corner from coast to coast" adding, "I hope they give Starbucks a run for their money!” In July 2016, Beau’s Coffee expanded it’s flagship store and renamed itself Bitty & Beau’s Coffee (a result of Beau’s 12th birthday wish to include his little sister’s name up in lights).
National media coverage has continued to shine a bright light on Bitty & Beau’s Coffee with appearances on the Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, BBC, Harry Show, Southern Living & People Magazine as well as the Rachael Ray Show, where the brand was named the OFFICIAL COFFEE of the Rachael Ray Show. Additionally, Amy was named a 2017 CNN Hero of the Year.
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee headquarters is located in Wilmington, NC with plans to expand to Charleston, SC later this year.
